Art of Problem Solving (AoPS) was founded by Richard Rusczyk in 2003 with the mission to provide interactive and challenging educational opportunities for passionate math students. A recognized leader in the field, Richard is the co-author of AoPS’s foundational textbooks and the author of key titles such as Introduction to Algebra, Introduction to Geometry, and Precalculus. He also co-authored Intermediate Algebra and Prealgebra, and played an instrumental role in the creation of the Mandelbrot Competition. Richard served as the Director of the USA Mathematical Talent Search, a role that shaped the development of young mathematicians in the U.S.

Richard's own achievements in mathematics are impressive. He was a participant in the National MATHCOUNTS competition, a three-time attendee of the Math Olympiad Summer Program, and a winner of the USA Mathematical Olympiad in 1989. In 2014, he received the prestigious Paul Erdös Award from the World Federation of National Mathematics Competitions in recognition of his outstanding contributions to math education.

After graduating from Princeton University in 1993, Richard worked as a bond trader at D.E. Shaw & Company for four years before returning to his true calling: teaching and mentoring motivated students. Today, Richard continues to shape the future of mathematics education through AoPS, where he is active under the username rrusczyk.
